Grandmother's Flower Garden by Ida
Pierson-Elam (1890-1976). Ida lived on a farm in northwest Missouri and was
divorced in 1922. She was left alone to work her farm and raise and support her
12 year old son. Ida was an independent, self-made woman, working as a quilter;
driving the school wagon pulled by horses; as a telephone operator; executive
housekeeper and cafeteria worker at a nursing home for 20 years. |

| This is a photo of Ida
in 1912 with her son, Gifford Pierson Elam. Tragically, Gifford died at age 27
on his wife's 21st birthday, when their son, Bill, was only 3 years old. These
quilts were bought from Bill Elam, who took care of Ida in his home the last few
years of her life. He said the quilts had to have been made in 1935 or before
since Ida's eyesight didn't allow her to continue quilting after that. A copy of
Ida's photo will be included with purchase.
Incredible 1-1/2" hexagon piecing all over. Love
those scalloped borders. Museum Quality outline stitching at 9-10 stitches per
inch. MINT UNWASHED condition. 68" x 90" $695

Ocean Wave by Ida Pierson-Elam

Quilt made by Jean's mother Gladys Diehl and grandmother of Mulhull married to
Jake Diehl. In September 1889 after the land run, Jean's Grandfather Donnelly
homesteaded a farm 4 miles north and 5 east of Crescent. In February 1890 they
moved to OKC where he became Marshall and operated a butcher store. Jean’s
grandfather Don Diehl of German descent came in land run of 1893 to Orlando and
moved to Mulhull where he operated a hardware store and cheesemaking plant and
worked in the oil field. Eleven early photos of Jean's family available upon
request with other memorabilia. Adorable with great embroidery embellishment.

Quilt made by Jean's mother Gladys Diehl and grandmother of Mulhull married to
Jake Diehl. In September 1889 after the land run, Jean's Grandfather Donnelly
homesteaded a farm 4 miles north and 5 east of Crescent. In February 1890 they
moved to OKC where he became Marshall and operated a butcher store. Jean’s

NEW ADDITION with pink and blue centers made by Patsy McGuire and her mom
on their Hugo, OK homestead centennial farm. Found unbound at their OKC estate.
I had it bound using vintage muslin. Outline and daisy quilting @ 5/6 st/in. Tiny
staining. MINT UNWASHED 72" x 85"

"by Lynda Palmer's maternal Grandmother Vernittie (Nittie) Ratteree from
Memphis, TN who married at age 17 James Rufus Means (aged 22 from Carrolton, GA)
in February of 1905 and moved to Hugo, Ok, where she gardened in the summer and
quilted in the winter. Her mother, Laura Agnes Ratteree died April 25, 1906 in
Memphis leaving 18-year old Nittie to raise her younger brother Willie and
sister Annie along with her own six children. Found in the Nittie's
daughter's Oklahoma City estate was the beautiful picture of a Victorian lady
cut from a shoe box with writing on the back "First pair of shoes he bought me
after we married."

NEW ADDITION: Embroidered on the
back "by Katie Barnes McClure. Settings and quilting by Marjorie Pearl Nordin
McClure 1976" from Helen (Mrs. Lloyd) Fitzgerald's OKC estate. Helen born in
1913 and her husband was a mill carpenter who lived on ther family's homesteaded
farm in Chickasha, OK. They moved to Washington and back to Oklahoma City where
he recently died at age 95. Museum Quality outline quilting @ 10/st/in. Love
those scallops.
